Opening Game

Basketball Elimination

Basketball Elimination is a quick shooting game that works well in a cultural hall or gym. It gives children a chance to move, cheer, and practice taking turns before the main Activity Days activity begins.

Time10 to 18 minutes
Best ForGroups that enjoy basketball or gym games
SpaceBasketball hoop or gym area
SuppliesTwo basketballs and one hoop

How To Run It

  1. Have players line up behind a shooting spot.
  2. Give basketballs to the first two players in line.
  3. The first player shoots, then the second player starts shooting right after them.
  4. If the second player makes a basket before the first player does, the first player is out.
  5. If the first player scores first, they pass the ball to the next person in line and go to the back.
  6. Continue until one player remains, or play for a set time and then reset.

Leader Tips

  • Use a closer shooting spot for younger children.
  • Let eliminated players cheer, rebound, or start a second line if the group is large.
  • Keep the tone light so children who are less confident with basketball still feel included.
  • Use soft indoor balls if the room or hoop setup requires it.
