Opening Game
Red Light, Green Light
Red Light, Green Light is a simple listening game that helps children practice self-control while still getting energy out. It is easy to explain and works well as a short Activity Days opener.
How To Run It
- Choose one leader or child to stand at the finish line.
- Have the rest of the group line up at the starting line.
- When the caller says "green light," players move toward the finish line.
- When the caller says "red light," everyone must freeze immediately.
- Anyone who keeps moving after red light returns to the starting line or takes a few steps back.
- The first child to reach the caller becomes the next caller.
Variations
- Use "yellow light" for slow motion.
- Add movement types such as tiptoe, hop, crab walk, or giant steps.
- Let the caller use gospel-friendly commands like "serve," "listen," and "freeze" if it fits the lesson.
- For younger children, avoid sending players back too far so no one gets discouraged.
